COURSES

HIGH ALTITUDE MEDICINE MODULE

This is a 90 minute stand alone module which covers the basics of high altitude physiology and the common problems what may be encountered on a high altitude trek or expedition.

It is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to visit the Greater Ranges to trek or climb.

The course is directed at non-medically trained persons but can be custom oriented to medical audiences as well.

Minimum class size is 10.

Topics covered include:

  • What consitutes "high" altitude
  • What happens at altitude and why
  • What can go wrong - common high altitude problems:
  • AMS, HAPE, HACE
  • How can I better prepare myself
  • How to handle common altitude medical problems
