COURSES

BASIC FIRST AID FOR THE OUTDOORS

This course is designed for High School Students aged 17-18years or for anyone without any prior First Aid experience wanting to know the basic minimum for a short trekking trip or a holiday to a rural destination. This course is ideal for large groups (such as school groups or outdoor clubs).

This course is an intensive half day 4.5h course with lectures and hands on practical sessions. A minimum class size of 24 and maximum class size is 30.

Morning Course Schedule :

0810 - 0820: Registration / Course intro

0820 - 0840: Lecture 1: Casualty assessment,what to do in an emergency

0840 - 0900: Lecture 2: Wound management

0900 - 0910 : Break

0910 - 0925: Lecture 3: Bites and stings

0925 - 0940: Lecture 4: Sprains and strains

0940 - 0945: 30 minute rotations at each skill station

a. scenario discussion station

b. wound dressing station

c. bandaging and splints station

1115 - 1125: Break and Regroup

1125 - 1140: Basic First Aid kit

1140 - 1210: Multiple-choice Quiz

1210: End of course

Afternoon Course Schedule :

1300 -1310: Registration / Course intro

1310 -1330: Lecture 1: Casualty assessment, what to do in an emergency

1330 - 1350: Lecture 2: Wound management

1350 - 1400: Break

1400 - 1415: Lecture 3: Bites and stings

1415 - 1430: Lecture 4: Sprains and strains

1430 - 1435: Break into practical skills groups (3)

1435 - 1605: 30 minute rotations at each skill station

b. wound dressing station

c. bandaging and splints station

1605 - 1615: Break and Regroup

1615 - 1630: Basic First Aid kit

1630 - 1700: Multiple-choice Quiz

1700: End of course
